Learning a new language literally transformed my life. I experienced firsthand what it feels like to transition from monolingual to becoming fluent in another language, English, in my case.
My name is Honorine Rouiller and I am a Senior Lecturer of French at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. As you can easily guess from my name, I am a native French speaker, born and raised in the beautiful countryside of France, on the west coast.
I have always been passionate about learning languages. I started learning English in primary school, German in middle school, Italian in high school, and Spanish in college. I wish I was fluent in all those languages but unless you practice, it is hard to keep up with all of them. However, I know what it is like to learn another language that has different rules from your native language.
I am passionate about my culture, my heritage, and my language. I love nothing more than helping others become fluent and confident French speakers!
In France, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English Linguistics, Literature and Civilization. I continued my studies with a Master’s in French from the University of Arizona and a PhD in Francophone Studies from Florida State University. You can learn more about my research here.
