The thing that makes learning a language satisfying is not only being able to communicate , but to be exposed to and appreciate another culture. Honorine makes grammar fun to learn, but much more than that, introduces a world of fascinating travel, film, current events, music, and daily activities that make life interesting. She comes up with ways to inspire you to want to embrace French culture to enrich your life experience no matter where you are. Learning French has become a rewarding pastime and something I anticipate with pleasure each week. I am so grateful to have begun my journey with someone who has so much to offer, perhaps most of all her unfailing patience!

Honorine has made my French improve tremendously! I first came to her class nervous and unable to formulate a sentence in French, and now I look forward to each of our classes and can speak for longer periods of time! She makes sure to ask what I’m weak in so that we can work on those things and make my French more well-rounded. I will be taking classes with her for as long as I can!

I am retired and decided to learn French. I had taken French in high school but that is so long ago, I didn't retain too much! I have been meeting with Dr. Rouiller for an hour once a week for eighteen months. I also listen to YouTube French material.  I enjoy my tutoring sessions with Dr. Rouiller as she patiently listens to me try to express my activities, how my week went, my opinions on a variety of subjects etc.  She does not correct every error while I am trying to express myself but does write down vocabulary for me to review.  She will explain many errors. She helps me figure out my errors which is more effective. She assigns homework to review together and I make progress.  At my level, middle intermediate, this works very well.  Bit by bit, I am able to better express myself, my accent is improving and I want to continue in this marathon!

If you want a tutor or wonderful french teacher, Honorine is the perfect fit! I had been taking french for four years in school and wanted to continue and keep it up outside of school. I found Honorine and she was so kind and such an energetic and interesting person. Honorine is extremely qualified to take french as she is fluent. Depending on the type of student you are, she has prepared lessons and asks about your week or day since you last met. Sometimes we will spend the entire hour lesson just talking in french about a wide range of topics and she shows that she cares and is interested in you. I never thought it was possible to have such a wonderful professional relationship but also the ability to be friends.

On your first lesson, she finds out what level of french you are and also what you want to focus on in the lessons, whether it be grammar, vocabulary, speaking, or reading. Honorine creates a shared notes to help keep track of the vocabulary from each lesson that is wonderfully helpful for looking back at and solidifying them. Honorine is always helpful when you don't quite know how to express your thought and is always respectful in pointing out any mistakes but also explains why it is wrong or if it is a common error.

These lessons quickly went from an hour of tutoring to an hour of the week I was looking forward to improving and chatting. She was always so willing to ADAPT to any schedule. If you needed to move a day because of an emergency, she was so considerate and helped you find a time to make it up!

She makes every session engaging and dynamic, providing opportunities for French conversations, role playing, and discussions. Working with her is never boring or repetitive. She is always on time and excited for our lesson. Just in a year I feel like I have improved so much and excelled in my ability to feel confident in the language. I hope that through changing schools and going to college, I can continue to do tutoring with her! I strongly encourage anyone who wants to learn or continue their french, to take Honorine, I promise you will not regret it!

Honorine is a superb teacher. She is extremely patient (essential for a language teacher!), and is great at discerning where and how a student needs help. She provides excellent exercises, and has the impressive ability to tailor her instruction to the specific needs of the student, whether it’s basic grammar, conversation, or reading (or some combination of them). This makes her teaching particularly efficient. As someone who taught languages for thirty years, I can truly say that I learned a great deal from her about how to be an effective and inspiring language teacher.
