Students’ Testimonies

Those students’ testimonials were provided anonymously as part of the end of the year teacher’s evaluations.

  • Teaching remotely is more challenging than in person, but Honorine made the best of it. I loved that she used her iPad for handwritten notes so it felt like we were learning in a classroom. Her feedback was always super helpful and she was always very enthusiastic about our success. I liked the assignments she created that used French influencers so we felt like what we were learning was useful in the real world. (French 1121, Summer 2021)

  • I loved how she used unconventional tools like letting us watch famous french youtubers, teaching us about slang words and abbreviations, and most importantly about events and situations like le cite that are realities in France. It was very applicable information. I think that Madam Rouiller cares about her students and how they do in her class more than any other professor I've ever had. (French 1121, Spring 2021)

  • She tries to create a comfortable learning environment for her students which is nice since it is intimidating to learn a new language. Honorine understands how difficult it can be to balance all courses so she is gracious to her students. I enjoy how much she wanted feedback from her students and really adjusted and took into consideration what would be the best method for us to learn. (French 1120, Fall 2020)

  • I just wanted to email you and thank you for such an amazing semester! I know due to the pandemic, a lot of things changed for students and teachers alike, but you made it seem so normal and stress-free. It was my first semester ever trying a new language and I was very nervous at first, but your way of teaching and talking with us made it seem so easy. You made the class so interesting and I looked forward to class every other day. So, with that I wanted to thank you again for being such a great instructor and for really caring about us. It means so much to me. I hope in the future we can finally meet each other in person. (French 1120, Fall 2020)

  • I understand that she only has a limited amount of time to get all of the course material to her students, but she made herself available as much as possible to allow students to learn the material that she was teaching in class. Her explanations of the material was very thorough and she was not disappointed with any of the students if they did not understand a certain topic. Rather, she took that opportunity to teach the student the correct answer or solution and explained to them why their solution was not correct and why they mistake is easily made. (French 1120, Summer 2019)

  • I found it great that Prof. Rouiller made sure that we were properly educated in the fundamental rules of French grammar, rather than just teaching us simple French terms and vocabulary. This made it so that we were able to express ourselves in French, rather than just repeat stock French phrases. (French 1121, Spring 2019)

  • She was always very clear in her instructions, gave time for questions and made herself available often. I found her extremely approachable and understanding. She was encouraging for us to participate despite when we would make a mistake, she made our mess ups an opportunity to learn and grow. I have never had such an amazing language teacher in all my school years dating back to elementary school. The time she put into this class in order to help us learn and understand was always apparent in all the resources she provided for us. (French 1121, Fall 2019)

  • I think you have done a wonderful job improving the curriculum for the French course. I actually enjoy coming to class and I finally feel like I am actively improving my knowledge of the French language and getting more comfortable speaking, which is something I have always struggled with. It is very clear that a lot of work has been put into making it work and that is very appreciated. (French 202, Spring 2018)

  • I thought the teacher was exceptional. She used a wide range of tools to ensure that her teaching was most effective. She was very persistent in making sure that everyone understood the concepts she taught before she moved on. Instead of just telling us what we had done wrong, the teacher would help us work through the issues in our work. I learned more in this class than I ever have in any other french course. She could have emphasized more on speaking, but otherwise she was great! (French 201, Fall 2019)
